LCL (Less than Container Load). Due to the fact that goods from different shippers are assembled together in a box, it is called LCL (Less than Container Load). This situation is used when the shipper's consignment quantity is insufficient to fill the entire box. The classification, organization, concentration, packing (unpacking), and delivery of LCL cargo are all carried out at the carrier's terminal container freight station or inland container transfer station.
LCL (Less than Container Load) is a relative term for full container load, referring to small bills of goods that are less than one full container.
This type of cargo is usually collected by the carrier separately and concentrated at the container freight station or inland station, and then assembled with two or more shipments.
Within a container, it is also necessary to unpack and deliver separately at the destination container freight station or inland station.
For this type of goods, the carrier is responsible for packing and unpacking operations, and the cost of packing and unpacking is still charged to the shipper.
The carrier's responsibility for LCL cargo is basically the same as traditional general cargo transportation.
LCL can be divided into direct consolidation or transshipment. Direct consolidation refers to the loading and unloading of goods in LCL containers at the same port, without opening the container until the goods arrive at the destination port, that is, the goods are at the same unloading port. This type of LCL service has a short delivery time, is convenient and fast, and generally strong LCL companies will provide only such services. Transshipment refers to the unloading or transshipment of goods in containers that are not from the same destination port and need to be unpacked or transshipped midway. Due to factors such as different destination ports and long waiting times on board, such goods have longer shipping times and even higher freight rates.
